December 10, 2003 This was told to me off the record, but since he has passed, it is safe to share it.

A friend called me to inform that Gary Cleveland was dying from cancer and that he was entering hospice. Gary died January 03, 2004.

Gary was a very clever writer.

(because the above is a repeat post because I respected Gary so much, see another fact below)

do high level weightlifters and bodybuilders die of cancer more frequently than the general population?

December 12, 1905 Arthur Saxon Bent Pressed 370 lbs. Did he stand erect with the weight, or not? Sources differ.

If you have these mags:

SH 4-36 p 50

MMIA 1976 p 193

Super Athletes p 79

Iron Game p 62

HS 3-19-1953 p 32

BAWB 2-48 p 56

AHC Vol 2 p 23

SH 3-53 p 17 indicates he did stand erect.

December 13, 1952 Here is an example of something I had filed as announced, but never encountered the results. That is why I know the Mr. East Midlands andthe Miss Nottinghamshire contests were happening on this date, and that Juan Ferrero was to be guest poser.

But I either lack the issue of H&S that presented the results, or those results were not shared, or human error on my part

If any member knows the results, please share.

Hi Joe, thanks for posting again as i missed first time around. I feel anyone who has been studying the history of strength will agree that the only lifts we can guarantee are those in competition or verified by a reputable source. This does not mean that the lifts were not genuine only that there is no proof other than hearsay. Also i find it hard to believe that Ahrens never did back or leg work and got that big. Even getting heavy weights to the shoulders and driving overhead demands a fair share of leg and back strength. Of course we will never know. Did that site ever acknowledge your work? I have a feeling it is not the first or last time it has happened to you.

Peter.
