November 17, 1950 Malcolm Brenner won the Jr. Mr. California.

Some years ago an editor of a bodybuilding mag contacted me saying he had been in touch with someone claiming to be Malcolm, but the said man was strange in manner and the editor was trying to figure out if he was indeed Malcolm. I was no help because I had no clue.

November 25, 2011 Vasily Alexeev died. Born Jan 17, 1942. He became the first man to break the 500 lb barrier in the Clean and Jerk in competition (Sep of 1970). He was 28 years old.

So here we are 49 years later, and the 600 lb C&J has not been reached.

I'm kind of surprised, too. I remember, years ago, thinking that the 600 Lb. barrier would be broken at the 1988 Olympics. We looked forward to it. It was the 1987 World's where Taranenko did 585. A few of us at Bruno's would debate on whether it was going to be Taranenko or Kurlovich to accomplish the feat.  Sadly, it didn't happen then, and decades later, 600 Lbs. is still uncharted territory. Although, it looks like Lasha Talakhadze from Soviet Georgia has a decent shot at 600. He's done 586, and it looked relatively easy.
