My Flex Factoids! Column: Part 1.

Recommended Posts

Joe Roark

I plan to share here my columns from Flex magazine for which I wrote for 17 years.

PLEASE DO NOT COPY THESE TO ANY OTHER SITE.

I will present the installments in alphabetical order by person featured, so Apollon will be first even though he was not so in my writings.

There were other offerings- featuring a year at a time in bodybuilding history, and those will be presented after this first batch.

There will be no schedule for this so check back often and I will post as I have time.

This first post will serve as an index for your handy reference.

Apollon [uni, Louis] from Flex September 2008:

[Michael Murphy offers these corrections, Page 1, post 18]:

Joe, In the first article on Apollon, the Count is Georges San Marin. I believe you have him listed as San Martin. Also it should be Eugene Vandenocke. I think you may have it as Vandernocke. I realize that these may be typos but other readers should be aware of the correct spellings.-Michael

Awesome, I'll be following this for sure... Appreciated...

I really liked this column, and also Steve Neece's MuscleMag column.

Gave you all the details you were looking for, without a lot of fluff/filler... To the point... (Both columns).

great stuff joe, reading of callenders contest history,i find it strange that he never competed in a nabba mr britain, despite qualifying in winning the south east britain and competing in the nabba universe.

Awesome joe. Look forward to reading them. I hope you continue to scan them the same way you are currently. I always wanted to print up and make a book for myself out of the kind of strength series, but too many were scanned at a lesser quality. Or two pages at a time instead of one like some of the others. Or scanned at a angle. But again, great stuff. Thanks

As you can see, I am starting with the Hall of Fame series. So there will be bodybuilders from various decades and a few oldtime strongmen.

There were also columns of random facts, and columns of featured activities within a given year. The total is about 190 columns.

Thank you. I appreciate all corrections and I hope that you or other members will offer them when you notice them. In this case I do not remember if the error was mine or not, but the importance is with the correction, so thanks.

Some of the mistakes were mine, others were out of my hands after I sent in the text. For example, whoever pulled the photo from the Weider photo library in one case pulled the wrong photo to match my text (a different lifter). On the other hand, I once referred to Dorian Yates winning one of his Mr. Olympias in the wrong city- that was my mistake.

Do not hesitate to offer corrections.

Leroy Colbert from Flex July 2003:

Laconia, New Jersey is an error. I sent in Laconia, New Hampshire, but it was changed. My guess would be N.H. became N.J.
